چکیده

The problem of interval estimation of the stress–strength reliability involving two independent Weibull distributions is considered. An interval estimation procedure based on the generalized variable (GV) approach is given when the shape parameters are unknown and arbitrary. The coverage probabilities of the GV approach are evaluated by Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation studies show that the proposed generalized variable approach is very satisfactory even for small samples. For the case of equal shape parameter, it is shown that the generalized confidence limits are exact. Some available asymptotic methods for the case of equal shape parameter are described and their coverage probabilities are evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation studies indicate that no asymptotic approach based on the likelihood method is satisfactory even for large samples. Applicability of the GV approach for censored samples is also discussed. The results are illustrated using an example. & 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Bayesian and Classical Estimation of Stress-Strength Reliability for Inverse Weibull Lifetime Models

In this paper, we consider the problem of estimating stress-strength reliability for inverse Weibull lifetime models having the same shape parameters but different scale parameters. We obtain the maximum likelihood estimator and its asymptotic distribution. Since the classical estimator doesn’t hold explicit forms, we propose an approximate maximum likelihood estimator. The asymptotic confidenc...

Inference on Overlap Coefficients under the Weibull Distribution: Equal Shape Parameter

In this paper we consider three measures of overlap, namelyMatusia’s measure ρ, Morisita’s measure λ and Weitzman’s measure∆. These measures are usually used in quantitative ecology and stress-strength models of reliability analysis. Herein we consider two Weibull distributions having the same shape parameter and different scale parameters. This distribution is known to be the most flexible lif...

A Study on the Reliability of Polyester Insulators Blended with Borax

Tracking is the main factor which limits the safe working electric stress of insulation in power system applications. Polymer samples have been tested in laboratory conditions according to ASTM D2303 on accelerated inclined plane tracking test. In this paper, a model based on improved Weibull statistics is proposed for estimating the breakdown time of polymeric insulating materials with borax. ...

Inference on the Kumaraswamy distribution

Many lifetime distribution models have successfully served as population models for risk analysis and reliability mechanisms. The Kumaraswamy distribution is one of these distributions which is particularly useful to many natural phenomena whose outcomes have lower and upper bounds or bounded outcomes in the biomedical and epidemiological research. This paper studies point estimation and interv...

Inference on Pr(X > Y ) Based on Record Values From the Power Hazard Rate Distribution

In this article, we consider the problem of estimating the stress-strength reliability $Pr (X > Y)$ based on upper record values when $X$ and $Y$ are two independent but not identically distributed random variables from the power hazard rate distribution with common scale parameter $k$. When the parameter $k$ is known, the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), the approximate Bayes estimator and ...
